Children

Children under 5 years of age may not under any circumstances travel unsupervised. Passengers travelling with a baby (0-2years) will have the baby on their lap.

Air Iceland has special regulations concerning children between the ages of 5-12 flying alone. It is important that the adult checking in the child arrive on time so as to ensure that the child is given a seat at the rear of the aircraft close to a cabin crew member. At check in the accompanying adult must fill out a form made available by our ground staff.

Use of Infant/Child Car Seats (Child Restrain Devices CRDs)

Passengers traveling with infants are allowed to bring onboard approved Infant/Child Car Seats (Child Restrain Devices CRDs), provided that there are free seats available on the flight in question. Passengers can reserve a seat for the CRD by purchasing an additional child fare, but booking of those seats is only possible by phone or at the passenger service counter at the relevant departure airport. Passengers traveling with CRDs are requested to allow ample time for check-in.

The use of infant/child car seats (Child Restrain Devices – CRD) is allowed during all phases of flight, including take-off and landing, provided the CRD is designed and approved in accordance with at least one of the following:

  • Approved for use in motor vehicles according to European Safety Standard ECE R44-03 or later series of amendments;
  • Approved for motor vehicles and aircraft according to US FMVSS No 213. US approved CRDs must bear the following labels in red lettering:

a. “THIS CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS and

b. “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT.

  • Qualified for use in aircraft according to the German “Qualification Procedure for Child Restrain Systems for Use in Aircraft” (TÜV Doc.:/985-01/2001);
  • Approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft according to Canadian CMVSS 213/213.1

The CRD must be designed to be attached to the airplane seat by a two point harness (normal aircraft lap belt) and must have a five point harness securing the groin, body and shoulders of the child. CRDs to be connected by three point harness only cannot be used. The CRD shall be installed in a window seat.

Air Iceland employees can prohibit the use of CRD during flight on account of flight safety reasons or if the CRD does not comply with requirements. In that case, the infant must sit on the guardian’s lap.

Rear facing car seats for 9-18 kg do not fit onboard Air Iceland’s aircraft.

Regrettably, Air Iceland is unable to provide passengers with Child Restrain Devices.
