Ittoqqortoormiit

Largest fjord complex in the world

Ittoqqortoormiit, "the place with the big houses", has one of the smallest populations in Greenland but still it is the third biggest municipality area in Greenland.

The village is located at Scoresby Sound, which with its ancillary fjords is the largest fjord complex in the world and also the world's longest fjord. The Ittoqqortoormiit area offers trophy hunting, expedition-type trips by sea kayak or dogsled, as well as more comfortable sailing and hiking trips.

The fauna in the National Park north of Ittoqqortoormiit is quite unique and consists of numerous species of mammals and birds. The community of Ittoqqortoormiit is one of the last hunter societies in the world, which for many of the hunters means a combined life with both hunting and tourism.

Air Iceland flies twice a week to Mittarfik Nerlerit Inaat or Constable Point Airport and there are regular helicopter flights from there to Ittoqqortoormiit. But more and more tourists use Constable Point as a base for their trips into the wild where there are many possibilities for hiking, fishing and skiing.
